It's cold and hungry in the home of Pavel, a driver. His two talented daughters, Maro and Tamro, dream of studying dance at the new Italian studio opening in Tiflis. But where will he find the money for their education? The cheerful and good-natured laundress Vardo tries to help, but is arrested for larceny. In the city there is commotion and confusion. Everyone has come to the streets: gymnasts, bakers, merchants, thieves, street cleaners, educated ladies and musicians. Life comes to a halt as they unite to free Vardo from jail....
